The MusikBoxx - Pure Music

The ModalAkustik MusikBoxx offers excellent sound quality resulting from the high-quality materials and components as well as the sophisticated design. The extraordinary appearance also makes listening to music a visual pleasure.

Features:

Dipol AMT-Tweeter from Mundorf:

  • Very light cone for precise reproduction and maximum detail
  • Dipole design ensures airiness, plasticity and a large spatial impression, the speakers “disappear” acoustically
  • The tweeter radiates horizontally broadly but less vertically, so that reflections from the floor and ceiling are minimized
  • Due to its top-mounted design it is optimally decoupled from the woofer volume

Accuton bass-midrange driver made of ceramic from Thiel & Partner:

  • Due to the particularly hard material cone deformation is minimized, enabling high precision

Cabinet:

  • The cabinet consists of acrylic ribs which are braced with stainless steel threaded rods. Acrylic has a high level of internal damping
  • A longitudinal brace presses the bass-midrange driver evenly against the baffle
  • The longitudinal brace also stabilizes the rear panel and tensions the cabinet
  • This creates an oppositely braced cabinet, which offers a high vibration tolerance and therefore results in a particularly “crisp” reproduction. We call this principle Push Push Layered Skeleton Enclosure PP-LSE
  • The enclosure is closed (no bass reflex) to enable optimum impulse reproduction. This results in a particularly crisp and precise bass response
  • The absorption material is arranged as a roll around the longitudinal brace, i.e. in the middle of the enclosure, where it can achieve the best effect. It also calms the cabling, which is routed through the material, and protects it from microphonics
  • The unevenly shaped baffles for the tweeter and woofer distribute edge reflections, making them less disruptive in action
  • High-quality terminals from German specialist WBT

Crossover:

  • The crossover is housed in an external enclosure and is therefore optimally protected against vibrations (microphonics). For example, capacitors tend to “sing” if they are in the speaker cabinet and are not sufficiently protected
  • The crossover is freely wired (i.e. not board-based) and hand-soldered
  • By outsourcing to an external housing, larger components can be used that would otherwise have been difficult to fit into the speaker housing. This allowed the best components to be used, regardless of size
  • Fully equipped with WBT terminals

Activation:

  • Separate terminals for the tweeter and bass-midrange driver make it easy to activate the MusikBoxx using DSPs. In contrast to permanently installed active modules, activation is also easy to upgrade
  • In active mode, you can even combine different power amplifiers for high and low-mid frequencies. Different cables can also be tried out. This opens up further possibilities for fine-tuning the sound, if desired

Stand:

  • The stand has a three-layer acrylic top plate
  • Tripod for tilt-free positioning
  • Lightweight design with little contact surface for sound waves
  • Resonance-optimized design with asymmetrical bracing
  • Interchangeable feet for any floor covering: both spikes and absorber feet are included in the scope of delivery

Miscellaneous:

  • All three components are manufactured by hand in Germany
  • During development, emphasis was placed on a more balanced frequency response, i.e. there is no pronounced emphasis
  • Both chassis offer high precision and complement each other perfectly
  • Maximum sound pressure level can be increased by high-pass filtering and adding the MusikBass RiPol subwoofer if required
  • Extremely flexible, modular concept that can grow with higher demands and thus offers a long service life:
    • Passive / Active
    • Stand-alone operation / support by one or more MusikBass RiPol subwoofers
    • Can be expanded into a floorstanding speaker with two MusikBass stacked on top of each other on each side and the MusikBoxx as the “head”

  • Height without tweeter: 22,0cm
  • Height incl. tweeter: 31,5cm
  • Width: 21,5cm
  • Depth: 28.0cm (without speaker terminals)
  • Diameter bass-midrange driver 15.8cm
  • Weight: 7,9kg

Stand:

  • Top-Plate: 28,3 x 18,3cm

  • Weight: 3,4kg

Technical data and measurement results:

Frequency response:

The frequency response is balanced with a slight downward tendency towards the treble. There are no pronounced accentuations or dips and the speaker exhibits uniform directivity. Below 45 degrees there is a drop in the mid-range, which minimizes reflections from the side walls, which is desirable in living rooms in terms of room acoustics. The optimum angle of the speakers is between 15 and 30 degrees (optimum measurement angle is 22 degrees).

·      Low frequency response: 78 Hz at -3dB, 55 Hz at -8dB

·      Efficiency: 82dB (1 W / 1 m)

A variation in height is also uncritical and shows neither emphasis nor dips in the frequency response (measured at a distance of 1m between 85cm and 115cm).

Crossover:

Very smooth transition from the low-midrange driver to the tweeter. In the following diagram you can also see very clearly that the break-up resonance of the bass-midrange driver has been completely filtered out.

·      Crossover frequency: 2,3 kHz

Impedance:

The MusikBoxx with MusikCrss crossover forms a loudspeaker with a nominal 8 ohms. The minimum is 6.4 ohms at 153 Hz. The loudspeaker therefore does not place high demands on an amplifier in terms of impedance and can also be operated with tube amplifiers.

·      Nominal impedance:  8 Ohm (in the most relevant area from 90 Hz to 10 kHz only slight variation between 6.4 und 12 Ohm)

Summary:

·      Low frequency response: 78 Hz at -3dB, 55 Hz at -8dB

·      Efficiency: 82dB (1 W / 1 m)

·      Crossover frequency: 2.3 kHz

·      Nominal impedance: 8 Ohm
